About Brave Education

The People Behind Brave Education

A small team with a big belief: education should grow with the learner.

Our Story

How Brave Education Began

Brave Education started with a single question: why does good education have to look the same everywhere? The answer, it turned out, was that it doesn't.

Brave Generation Academy launched as a flexible, accredited secondary programme โ€” built for learners who needed something different. Some were athletes who couldn't commit to a fixed timetable. Some were families living abroad. Some were simply young people who'd been failed by the system and needed a fresh start. BGA worked for all of them.

Then the questions started coming from families with younger children. "We love what you're doing โ€” but why does it have to start at 11?" It was a fair challenge. The habits, the curiosity, the love of learning โ€” these things take root long before secondary school.

So we went back to the beginning. Brave Roots was built for children from birth to five โ€” a gentle, research-backed framework to help families nurture the five pillars of early flourishing. Then Brave Wings extended the philosophy into primary years: a full six-year curriculum from age 5 to 11, built around big questions, hands-on projects, and a belief that children can handle depth.

And for learners ready to go further โ€” Brave Pathways now connects our secondary graduates directly to accredited university degrees. Birth to degree. One joined-up philosophy.

Meet the Founder

Tim Vieira, Founder of Brave Generation Academy

Tim Vieira

Founder, Brave Generation Academy

Tim has spent over two decades thinking about how people learn โ€” and why traditional education so often gets in the way of it. His career has taken him across international education, curriculum design, and learner support, and he's seen first-hand the gap between what schools promise and what students actually experience.

He started Brave Generation Academy not to replace education, but to reimagine it. The core idea was simple: if you give learners real respect, real flexibility, and real challenge โ€” they rise to it. Every time. BGA was built around that conviction, and it's what still drives every decision the team makes.

Tim is passionate about the idea that good education isn't a product you deliver โ€” it's a relationship you build. He believes the best learning happens when families, learners, and educators all feel genuinely part of something. That philosophy is baked into everything at Brave Education, from the youngest Brave Roots learner to our university-pathway graduates.

Paul Penfold, BGA Partner

Paul Penfold

BGA Partner ยท Brave Education Lead

Brave Education is an extension of BGA โ€” created by Paul Penfold to bring the same enquiry-based, self-managed learning philosophy to younger children. Where BGA serves secondary learners aged 11 and up, Brave Education picks up from birth, giving families a joined-up approach across every stage of childhood.

Paul brings many years of experience in education to this work, most recently as Head of School at British Concordance International School in Chiang Mai. He has seen what happens when children are trusted as learners, given space to ask big questions, and supported rather than directed โ€” and it's that belief that shapes every element of Brave Roots and Brave Wings.

For Paul, the goal is simple: give families the tools to raise genuinely curious, capable, and confident children โ€” and get out of the way.

What We Believe

Our Principles

๐Ÿง’

Learner-Centred

Every child is a natural learner. Our role is to protect that instinct โ€” not replace it with compliance.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

Flexible by Design

Life doesn't fit a school bell. Our programmes work around your family, your location, and your learner's pace.

๐Ÿ”ฌ

Hands-On & Enquiry-Based

Children learn by doing. Every week leads to discovery โ€” through projects, experiments, making, and asking.

๐ŸŽ“

Real Qualifications

Flexibility never means compromise. Learners leave with internationally-recognised credentials that open genuine doors.

๐Ÿ’›

Character & Wellbeing

Academic achievement matters โ€” but so does emotional resilience, curiosity, and a sense of who you are.

๐Ÿก

Family-Friendly

Parents aren't just supporters โ€” they're part of the learning. We make it easy to be involved without becoming a teacher.
