Brave Wings

Brave Wings โ€” Phenomenon-Based Primary Home Education (Ages 5โ€“11)

Brave Wings grew out of Brave Generation Academy โ€” born from the belief that if flexible, learner-centred education transforms teenagers, it can transform younger children too. A complete, six-year, phenomenon-based curriculum built on the conviction that children learn best when they're genuinely curious.

54 themes. 216 weeks. Real questions. Real learning.

How Does a Week Work?

From Monday Enquiry Days to Friday Discovery, each week follows a proven rhythm designed for home and school learning.

Creative Projects & Quests

Every theme includes a Quest โ€” a hands-on creative project that brings learning together and becomes a lasting memory.

Kitchen Table Chat

Every week includes a Kitchen Table Chat โ€” a short, guided conversation between parent and child about the theme. It's designed to build thinking skills, vocabulary, and the parent-child learning relationship.

No preparation needed. Just sit down and talk.

Why This Curriculum Exists

Most curricula start with content โ€” what children need to know โ€” and work backwards into lessons. We started with a different question: what makes a child genuinely want to learn?

The answer was always the same. Children learn best when they're curious, when they're doing something real, and when someone they trust is beside them. Not worksheets. Not screens. Not tests. Real questions, real materials, real conversations.

Every one of the 216 weeks in Brave Wings is built on that principle. Each week starts with a phenomenon โ€” something a child can see, touch, or wonder about โ€” and builds outward into science, maths, literacy, art, and character. We call it phenomenon-based learning, but you don't need to remember that. You just need to sit at the kitchen table and start.

Brave Wings: A Curriculum That Grows With Your Child

Brave Wings isn't a collection of standalone lessons โ€” it's a carefully sequenced six-year journey. Skills, concepts, and character virtues are introduced, revisited, and deepened across 54 themes and 216 weeks.

Each year contains 36 weeks across 3 terms. Every week is a complete, ready-to-use lesson plan.

How This Curriculum Was Built

This curriculum was designed by Paul Penfold โ€” a Head of School with over 20 years of experience in international education โ€” and developed through Brave Generation Academy.

The design principles, learning philosophy, theme sequencing, pedagogical approach, and quality standards all come from Paul's experience of what works in real classrooms with real children. The production process used AI tools to help scale 216 weeks of detailed lesson plans โ€” but the thinking, the craft, and the educational expertise behind every week are entirely human.

Every theme was planned by hand. Every learning pathway was designed with intention. The AI helped with the heavy lifting of production โ€” formatting, consistency, cross-referencing โ€” so that one person's vision could become a complete six-year programme without a team of 50 curriculum writers.

The result: a curriculum with the coherence of a single author and the depth of a full publishing team.

Brave Wings is part of the Brave family of programmes, developed through Brave Generation Academy.

Whether you're homeschooling for the first time, looking for a structured home education programme, a nature-based curriculum, or a creative primary curriculum that covers the full UK National Curriculum โ€” Brave Wings gives you everything you need.
