We're going to be upfront about something: AI played a role in building Brave Wings. Not the thinking, the philosophy, or the educational design — those are entirely human, drawn from over 20 years of experience in international education. But the production process — scaling 216 weeks of detailed lesson plans into a consistent, complete programme — used AI tools.
We're telling you this because we believe in transparency, and because AI in education is a conversation every family needs to have.
What AI did in building Brave Wings.
The curriculum design — which themes, in which order, building which skills, toward which outcomes — was all done by hand by Paul Penfold. AI helped with the production heavy lifting: formatting, consistency checking, and helping one person's vision scale to a complete six-year programme.
Think of it like architecture. The architect designed the building. AI helped lay some of the bricks — faster and more consistently than one person could alone. But every brick was laid to the architect's plan.
What this means for your child's education.
AI tools are changing education rapidly. Your child will grow up in a world where AI is everywhere — in their tools, their workplace, their daily life. Understanding how to use AI well, critically, and ethically is becoming as important as literacy and numeracy.
Brave Wings doesn't use AI in the delivery of lessons — your child won't be talking to a chatbot. But the programme was built with an awareness that the world your child is preparing for is fundamentally different from the one we grew up in. The skills Brave Wings develops — critical thinking, creativity, ethical reasoning, independent investigation — are precisely the skills that matter most in an AI-augmented world.
Our position.
AI is a tool. Like any tool, it can be used well or badly. We used it well — to bring a single educator's vision to life at a scale that would otherwise have required a large publishing team. We're honest about that because we think honesty builds trust, and trust is what alternative education runs on.
