You've decided to homeschool. You've got a curriculum. Now what? Here's how to set up a weekly rhythm that actually works — without turning your home into a school.
Choose your hours and stick to them.
Most homeschool families do their focused learning in the morning — 9am to 12pm works well. Afternoons are for reading, outdoor time, hobbies, and play. You don't need six hours. You need two to three focused hours and the rest of the day for living.
Follow the rhythm, not a rigid timetable.
Brave Wings gives you a Monday-to-Friday structure: Enquiry, Quest, Maths, Literacy, Discovery. You don't have to follow it rigidly — if Tuesday's Quest project runs long, let it. The rhythm gives you shape without handcuffs.
Set up a learning space.
It doesn't have to be a dedicated room. The kitchen table is perfect. A cleared surface, good light, materials within reach. Some families use a shelf or box with the week's materials laid out on Sunday evening — it removes the morning scramble.
Prepare on Sunday.
Spend 15 minutes reading through the week's Prep Box. Gather materials. Skim the activities. That's it. You don't need to plan lessons — they're already planned. You just need to know what's coming.
Let Friday be free.
Brave Wings' Friday Discovery Day is child-led by design. Let your child choose what to explore. This is where the magic happens — and it only works if you resist the urge to direct it.
Expect bad days.
Some days will be brilliant. Some days will be a disaster. On bad days, close the books, go for a walk, and try again tomorrow. One bad day is not a crisis. It's a Tuesday.
